Safely and securely shredding your old documents is one of the best ways to prevent identity theft. Members are invited to bring up to 2 boxes of paper. Each shred fest event will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, or until the truck is full.

1. Old Tax Returns: Generally, it’s safe to shred tax returns that are more than seven years old.
2. Bank Statements: Any bank statements not needed for tax purposes can be shredded.
3. Old Medical Records: Keep those that are still relevant to your current health situation, otherwise, shred them.
4. Pay Stubs: Once you’ve received your annual W-2 and confirmed its accuracy, you can shred old pay stubs.
5. Utility Bills: After you’ve paid them and don’t need them for tax purposes, shred them.
6. Credit Card Statements: After you’ve confirmed the accuracy of the transactions, it’s safe to shred these unless needed for tax purposes.
7. Old ID Cards and Passports: These could be a goldmine for identity thieves if not disposed of properly.
8. Expired Warranties: Once they’re expired, they’re not much use.
9. Receipts: Unless needed for warranties, returns, taxes, or big-ticket items, shred them.
10. Junk Mail: Any mail with your name, address, or other personal information.
Remember, before shredding any document, ensure it’s not something you’ll need in the future.
